3. Went to QE2 bar last night to watch the premiere of their new Christmas show , fab fab fab all the cast have worked their socks off, Michael, chanelle,Danny, Missie and Neil great show had a good time, the place was packed.

   When the show finished we headed to Sparkles, only two Drag artist on but again who needs any more they kept the audience laughing right till the end of the night. Miss Dina Might and Andy two of the best pros in Gran Canaria.

   So if you make it to the Yumbo over the festive season try and catch both venues.(that's two nights sorted, plus there are a host of other great bars to try.

On my very first visit to Puerto Rico, I walked around the commercial centre and was amazed to see that the Fugi digital camera which I had considered purchasing was for sale in one shop at a considerably lower price than I could have purchased it back home. I had researched this camera and felt that it would meet my requirements.

   Let me say at the outset that my holiday was 7 days from Saturday to Saturday. This is important as it will give an indication of how they operate.

   Mistake No 1

   I entered the shop about 11.45am on Tuesday and enquired about the camera in question and the very charming attendant said, Yes, the Fugi that was at the price shown, that it included everything and had an international guarantee, so I agreed to purchase. He went to the storeroom to get the camera and came back with a very disappointed face (Fake) and said sorry, that they are out of stock. He asked me when I was leaving for home. I told him, next Saturday. He said that they will not be back in stock again till next week.

   Mistake No 2

   I listened to him as he proceeded to tell me about a much better camera which was only marginally more expensive, supporting his argument with a magazine review outlining the defects in the Fugi camera and another magazine with a glowing report of the camera he was recommending, a Casio camera. Needless to mention, I was impressed. I asked about various different features of this camera and just about every feature equalled or exceeded the Fugi camera.

   I paid for the camera using my credit card and left the shop delighted with my purchase. The time was about 12.15pm and I sat down in one of the seats in the walkway that runs through the shopping centre and proceeded to admire my purchase but the admiration quickly turned to astonishment and shock. The camera I just purchased did not have an optical Zoom, something which was very important to me.

   Mistake No 3

   I went back to the shop and explained that this camera did not have an optical zoom. He said that it had a digital zoom, and that is what he was taking about. This time, a second attendant assisted him in assuring me that digital zoom was what he was talking about. I disagreed, but they won that argument. They said, do not worry we will change it for you. I asked if it was possible to get a refund. That was possible only if their boss approved, but he was travelling in some part of the European mainland at that time.

   Decision-time. Will I keep what I had just purchased or exchange for a camera with an optical zoom.

   Mistake No 4

   I decided to change the camera. The time was now about 12.35pm and this was when they played their trump card. They informed me that they were closing at lunch-time for stocktaking but would re-open again next Monday. I now had 25 minutes to make my choice. The only camera they appeared to have in stock with optical zoom were the top of the range models and all at inflated prices. As I was trying to decide, they became more intimidating (I was going to say abusive, but perhaps that was too strong a word) looking at their watches and pulling down some shutters and bringing in some stock and asking me in abrupt voices if I had made a decision.

   I never made a more rushed decision in my life, and may I say a worse decision in my life. The camera I took home had optical zoom. It produced awful pictures, had an awful viewfinder and battery life if I did not use the electronic viewfinder and flash was about 10 pictures. To top it all, I could have got the same camera in the UK for about 50% of the price.

   Needless to mention, when I returned to the commercial centre later that day, the shop was open for business as usual.

   You might say as you read the above, wasn’t he very naive. The simple answer is, Yes I was, and will openly admit it, but I learned a very expensive lesson that day that no College could ever teach me. I am not the first to be caught by these tricksters and I won’t be the last. I read many a sad story connected with the electronics shops in this forum in it’s pre-hacked days.

   I did not mention the name of the shop for legal reasons. I am led to believe however that it does not really make any difference which shop you go to. There is a very cosy relationship between them. I could go further, but do not have absolute proof.

   If you do decide to go ahead and purchase, I would suggest that you fully research the make and model you are interested in. Do not under any circumstance change your mind in the shop.

   There was what I would call a straight camera shop called Foto Action in the Europa centre. Unfortunately, it closed down earlier this year. Bought a lot of goods there, recommended it to others, all Happy. It differed from all of the other shops that I came across in that all of the items on the window display were priced and it was impossible to negotiate any reduction on the items. They had a policy, the price you see is the price you pay. I did come across another shop in Lanzarote called Visante (spelling may be incorrect, someone please correct) believe that they are in Playa del Ingles also. They operated a similar policy. Not all camera shops in GC are bad, but good ones are small in number in the resorts. For this reason, I suggest that you go to the normal towns such as Vecindario, Telde or Las Palmas and make your purchase

7. You need to try and knock them down in price, they will come down if they think you are going to buy your perfume elsewhere, also check the prices in the uk airport first can some times be lower.

8. I was in PDI from 29 September for a week and it was fairly quiet but still busy enough to have a good time. The prices for drinks and food seemed to have gone up since we were there in February but are still pretty reasonable. One thing we did notice though is that perfume etc wasn't that much cheaper than it is in Britain.

10. Great night in the yumbo on halloween night, most bar had a halloween theme and a geat time was had by all.

    There were some really good costumes in and around the different bars, got some awesome photos for the album thanks to everybody for a great turnout.

    come to veuvettes in the yumbo and ask any of our staff where the best places to go are, we are happy to point you in the right direction making sure you have a good holiday. while you are there you can take advantage of out 321 promotion which is 3 euro for smirnoff vodka , gordons gin or bagardi with a mixer excluding red bull and cranberry , 2 euros for a LARGE beer and 1 euro for soft drinks and if you mention this site we will give you a few shot, what a fab way off to start your holiday, friendly and discounted drinks and advise ob where the best places to go are. see you there johol . lisa xx

14. Seen the new show at Cafe La Belle an unusual mixing of two musical favourites Grease and Hairspray called 'hairgrease' it works really well, to the point that the cast had a standing ovation, well done Cafe La Belle Another great show under your belt.

16. Hi guys and gals,

    Just looking for a bit of advice. I'm a comedy hypnotist, currently performing my summer season in the Greek Island of Kos. I'll be back here from next May but I'm looking for a winter resort.

    I'll be back to touring the UK from November-December but I'm looking for a resort from January-April. I wondered if you could tell me a little more about Gran Canaria (and Playa Des Ingles in particular). I have heard that there are other hypnotists out in the area but I wondered how busy the resort is in those months and whether the few entertainment venues are still running live entertainment...

    Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

17. Thanks all you great people for making our holidays so fabulous, especially all the mad drag queen we've never had such a great time in our lives. 26. I have to agree with sunlover things in GC at the moment are not the best. Maybe a good idea to wait for a bit and see what happens in the tourism market also I think you have to consider if the kind of work you can get (and the pay) is going to be suitable with your tot in tow. all the best though

29. Hi Zassie i know you have to follow your dreams, but please thimk very carefully before moving to gc.

    There is bar work around but it does not pay well. Due do the credit crunch and other things the bars are not doing that well, infact some are laying staff off therfore ther will be more people looking for work.

    I hope you can do what your heart wants but please think twice

30. Hi my name is zassie and have decided like many thers to relocate as english weather is tooo cold. I was wondering if anybody could help me witgh my quest. Im looking to move to gc in a month or so for long term. I am a single mum so will be comiung with my toddler. Hard as it sounds but you got to follow your dreams. So iw ould be grateful if you could let me know of some good affordable long term lets and where will i find out about these? also i imagine like many resorts you have to be at the resort to look for work, but to be honest i always have found bar work, but if this is the case will i be able to find nanny care for my son, like baby sitter for the evenings or an aupair? and is work still available iover the winter?

    sorry for such long essay lol
